The Tree of Life and Healing

In burnout one of the frequent questions asked is, “Will I ever heal? Will I ever recover and have interest and zeal again?”

The answer is yes, it is possible for sure, but, some do not and keep spiraling downward into a black abyss. By staying in the bitterness and sour spirit of the TKGE, death keeps flowing through our spirit. You can mechanically get down on your knees and pray for those who are your enemies, but if you are praying this way from the TKGE, it will still leave you unhealed and frustrated.

Let me illustrate an idea with a mountaineering story. When you are climbing in most mountain ranges in the world, you can sit down and rest when you are tired. As you take a breather, drink some water and scarf down a power bar, your body is recovering. The blood is removing the lactic acid from your leg muscles, and your heart and lungs are adapting to the altitude. Recovery is taking place.

However, when you climb in the Himalayas, the tallest mountains on earth, you pass through a boundary at 24,000 feet. Once you are past this point you have entered the death zone. Above 24,000 feet the body does not recover. Even when you stop to rest, and have a drink, your body is slowly dying. It still feels good to sit down and chew on a snack, but your body is still slowly dying. Even if you never jumped up and started plodding higher up the mountain, your body would slow down and deteriate to the point of death. Life in the death zone, no matter how picturesque the clouds below are, no matter how good the comaraderie with team mates, no matter how good the rest feels or snack tastes, no matter how beautiful the scenery – life in the death zone leads to death!

Sounds a lot like the TKGE doesn’t it? No matter how good the good may seem in the TKGE it leads to death. So what does this mean regarding healing?

“Then the angel showed me the river of water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit for every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” Revelation 22:1-2 NIV

It may seem like an oversimplification, but living in the tree of death leads to death, living in the Tree of Life leads to life. If you truly want to heal, and feel good about life, God, family and church again, you need to live in Life. You need to eat the right fruit. Sure you can go to a $200 a hour therapist until you run out of money, and it may feel very good. Someone is listening to you and not judging you. It feels good to unload and talk freely. But if you still hang out in the TKGE can a $200 therapist completely heal you? Can you live in the death zone and be healed?

Plunge into the Tree of Life, and if you need to, find a therapist who also lives in the Tree of Life, and you will be well on your way! What you will learn, the new way you will think, the new approach toward your enemies, the way you will relate to others and God, the whole new life-giving attitude you will have will lead to life and heal you to bear much good fruit yielding along the way!
